Questions about Distribution

Is Jeridoo Productions (JP) and LiFF going to charge me?

We don't charge a setup fee. We simply collect from you the "encoding" fee, which our partner is charging us. We certainly provide receipts to prove that. But getting into iTunes and all these platforms is not free. These Video-on-Demand companies (VoD's), like iTunes, Netflix, amazonVoD, etc except delivery of digital content from only a handful vendors. Jeridoo Productions is a vendor - JP is not an approved encoding house. 

What does your encoding house do?

We work together with two approved and certified encoding facilities. They encode your movie and supply the correct format to the VoD companies. Our partner is doing that for Warner Bros, Sony and others. As you can see, even the big companies have to use these encoders otherwise you cannot not place your movie with any VoD Service, anywhere.

How do I profit from that?

Because JP is an official vendor we have some more "purchase" power with the encoding houses. They understand that we are trying to give ourselves and other fellow independent film makers the chance to end up on iTunes and VoD's.  

Do I get on iTunes guaranteed?

We and our encoder guarantees placement of your film in iTunes. All other services are not guaranteed as the buyers of Netflix, Blockbuster, etc. choose. However, with this LiFF program we'll get a nice catalog together and sell the whole catalog, not film by film. This is actually preferred by most VoD's. Matter of fact, some VoD's demand not less than 50 films in a catalog. 

What about my film at the encoding house?

Our partner stores your film for life. That is great news. When there is a new VoD company launching, or you need your film on HDcam, DVD, BluRay even 35 mm, you can order copies at manufacturing cost at any time. 

How much does it cost me?

Encoding usually starts at around $1500+ but we have a bulk deal going. It depends on the length of your film. Our deal with the encoder starts at around $300 to $800. However, we are trying to get at least 50+ LiFF movies on board and then the rates will change. We can all benefit together. This is for basic encoding, which means no subtitles, DTS split or encoding in 5.1 or THX. These servies are extra, but with most LiFF movies not needed.

What happens after the encoding?

Our encoding facility is delivering the film in accordance with the VoD's requirements. Delivery ranges between $60 to $200, depending on the film genre and length. 

What's my deal with JP/LiFF

You pay the encoding, but net prices. Different platforms pay different royalties. Anywhere from 50% to 75%. This money comes to JP on a quarterly base. We keep 50% and your get the other 50%. 

Should I be on VoD while my movie is still at festivals?

The line-up with movies is simple: Festival, Theater, VoD, DVD/BD (can be at the same time as VoD), PayTV (like HBO, etc), FreeTV, youTube/vimeo/etc. Therefore rolling out a movie on VoD, while you are still attending festivals here and there is not going to hurt your movie. What hurts your movie is FreeTV and then try to go to a festival.

Does my movie have to be translated for other markets?

If your original language is English you will be placed in all English market VoD's, including U.K., Asia and Australia. All other markets, lets say Germany/Austria/Switzerland (100 Mio ppl) need at least subtitles or voice over (fine for documentaries only). Movies, including short movies, need to be dubbed. There are just a few VoD's that take it with subtitles. More about this and our services here.

Is Distribution exclusive?

No, we don't want you to stop shopping your film around the globe. However, you may consider JP as your distributor. There will be a  non-exclusive distribution agreement between you and JP/LiFF. More Details on our Distribution page.

Is publishing my DVD on amazon.com considered exclusive DVD distribution?

Absolutely not. You can still have your film distributed by another company, anywhere in the world including USA.

Who gets the rights to my film?

YOU DO, nobody else gets the rights to your film.
